Travel | Amsterdam Photo Diary

Amsterdam Canals and BikesBack in May, me and the girls hopped on a plane and took a weekend trip to Amsterdam. Having never been to the city before I really didn't know what to expect. Luckily it turns out me and Amsterdam were made for each other. Bicycles, Canals, Tulips & Cheese - not to be stereotypical at all.

Amsterdam Canals and Boats in the Sunshine

Now I'm ashamed to say that I had 4 things from my Bucket List that I could have achieved in Amsterdam and I only managed one. I got so caught up in just wandering around the city that I completely forgot to tick off some list! I also chickened out of attempting to cycle through the city as I had no idea who had priority ever. Tram? Bicycle? Pedestrian? Car?
I did manage to put a big tick by #125 Visit Anne Frank House even though it meant queuing for what felt like an eternity, it was worth it. I think it's a place that everyone should visit at least once as it's so moving.

Amsterdam Magnum Shop Creation

Doesn't that Magnum look heavenly? That beautiful ice cream creation was made in the Magnum Pleasure Store (Leidsestraat 79). My gosh does it give you pleasure too. First you choose your ice cream, then your chocolate to coat and to finish you can choose 3 of their amazing toppings. The selection of toppings is so wonderful it was an incredibly hard decision to choose just three. In the end, after much contemplation to the disgrace of the queue behind, I chose Vanilla Ice Cream, White Chocolate Coating with a Milk Drizzle, Fudge Cubes, Freeze Dried Raspberries & Popping Candy. It's safe to say it was a taste sensation.

While on the subject of food, I also tried a Febo. It's a chain brand who's stores are like giant fast food vending machines. I couldn't not go in. You can get everything from fries, burgers, croquettes and strange Amsterdam delicacies. I chose a cheese and ham croquette and it was the perfect afternoon snack after exploring all day.

Amsterdam Sky Garden in the Rain

On our final evening we adventured in the pouring rain up to the Sky Garden near Centraal Station. It offered amazing views of the city despite the rain (my poor picture does it no justice). It was the prefect spot to splash out on some Prosecco and toast to my best friend finishing university and graduating.

I can't wait until next time Amsterdam.
